Tip 2: Personalize your desk or workspace!

One of the best ways to make work more enjoyable is to personalize your desk. In most cases you will be spending forty hours a week there, if not more, you are going to want to make it as pleasant a place as possible to spend your time. There are plenty of ways that you can personalize your desk if you are creative, just make sure not to go overboard and add so many decorations that you can't do your work.

Given that you are going to be spending a lot of time at work it is a good idea to think about making it a personal space. There are few things more depressing than spending eight hours a day staring at a grey cubicle wall. Personalizing the desk will make it feel more like your space and make spending time there more enjoyable. This should not only help to raise your spirits but it should also help to make the time pass faster. This is something most people would definitely like to see happen.

The first thing that you are going to have to do before you decide to personalize your desk is to make sure that you find out what company policy is on this subject. Most are fine with you adding pictures to your desk but they would probably have an issue if you put up new wall paper in your office. The last thing that you want is to go to the trouble personalizing your space only to be told that you have to remove it all. It is just easier if you find out ahead of time what you can and can't do.

The most common way to personalize your workspace is to add pictures. Most people will add pictures of their family but you are certainly not limited to this. That being said you do have to be careful with pictures; you really can't put anything on your desk that somebody else will find offensive. This can be a tricky area since you will often be surprised at what some people will find to be offensive. This is why most people just stick with pictures of their family but if you are careful you can be more creative.

You can also add some color to your desk if you are creative about it. This doesn't have to be as hard as you think, just pick a color that you are going to use and then make everything visible on your desk like file folders, note pads and other things that color. You can also personalize your desk by adding personal items or even a plant to your desk. However you do have to keep in mind that you need to use your desk to do your job. Don't let it become so overcrowded with stuff that it affects your ability to do your work.
