Tip 3: Take breaks with co-workers, not alone!

A lot of people find that one of the most important parts of having a job is the chance to interact socially with the people that you work with. However not everybody feels this way. If you are in the second group you may spend most of your breaks alone. This is not really a good idea so you should make a bit of an effort to take breaks with your co-workers.

The main reason that you are going to want to take breaks with your co-workers is so that you don't have to take them alone. There are very few people who actually enjoy being alone all of the time so you are going to want to have some form of social interaction with other people while you are at work. You may talk to several people during the day while you are working but talking to them about work is not really the same as interacting socially. The best way to do this is to spend some time with them during your break periods.

The other big reason that you are going to want to take your breaks with your co-workers is that it will allow you to get to know them better. Again talking to people while you are working is not really the same as talking to them during breaks. Although there is no requirement that you need to get to know your co-workers you will find that work is a lot more enjoyable if you make a little bit of an effort in this regard. Just getting to a little about their personal lives can make a huge difference.

Another important factor in taking breaks with your co-workers is the impression that it makes on them. If you are constantly taking your breaks by yourself they are going to assume that you are standoffish and that you don't really want to be around them. Even if this is true it really isn't a good career move to let your co-workers think that this is the case. Even if social interaction is not important to you it is important to keep in mind that it probably is to other people. It is a good idea to make the effort to spend some break time with your co-workers.

If you are one of those people who would rather spend time alone you don't have to spend all of your breaks with your co-workers. Nobody expects that the people you work with will become your best friends or that you are going to spend every break with them. All that is really expected is that you will make an effort every now and again to socialize. Who knows you might even enjoy the experience once you start doing it. Even if you don't you will still find that you will have a better relationship with your co-workers.
