Tip 5: Take Sick Days When You're Feeling Bad!

Most employees have sick days available to them that they can use so they won't have to go to work when they are sick. However a lot of employees never use them, they will show up for work no matter how sick they are. This is really not a good idea. If you are actually sick the best thing to do is to stay home and rest so that you can recover from your illness.

There is a reason that you have sick days so you are going to want to make sure that you use them. Being sick is no fun and the last place that you want to be when you are feeling bad is at work. More to the point you are hardly going to be at your best when you are sick so there is really little value in going to work. You would be much better off taking the time to make sure that you recover properly so that you can be at your best while you are at work.

Going to work while you are sick is also really going to slow down the recovery process. When you are sick you need to rest, the best thing you can do is to sleep. Working while you are sick is going to tax your immune system and make it harder for you to recover. The longer it takes you to recover the longer it is going to be before you are able to perform at your best. It is in everybody's best interest if you take the time to recover properly before you return to work.

Going to work when you are sick is probably not going to make your co-workers all that happy. Most illnesses are contagious and the last thing that they want is to catch what you have. Even if you aren't contagious most people are going to believe that you are so they probably won't be all that happy if you show up at work. Rather than make your co-workers angry it would make much more sense to just stay home, use your sick days and recover properly before you head back to the office.

While it is a good idea to use your sick days when you are in fact sick it is also important to make sure that you aren't taking advantage of them. There is a difference between being sick and not feeling like going to work. Unfortunately sick days are one of those things that can be easily abused. This is why a lot of people are suspicious when somebody calls in sick. There is no reason not to call in sick if you are sick; if your co-workers are suspicious that is their problem. However you don't want to be that person who abuses their sick days and ruins it for everybody else.
